AC/DC’s Kindly Deeds

Do you remember the Simpsons’ episode when Homer says he likes AC/DC, to which Ned replies that he likes their “Christian cover band AD/BC”… This is of course followed by the two of them singing… Ah, I wish I had that hilarious clip. Oh wait, I do.

Australian hard-rock band AC/DC has been around for 40 years now, entertaining a monstrous number of fans, as illustrated among other things by their 1991 “Thunderstruck” video. Back then, I was almost scared at the sight of that… heh, I was still a kid though. It didn’t take too long for me to enjoy it.

Yup, no power ballads for these folks! Some see “arena rock anthems” as lesser rock songs, but as long as they’re good, that’s what really matters. And is there a song that rocks more than “Back in Black”?

AC/DC went through some tough times as well. After the tragic death of their friend/singer Bon Scott, the others members wondered if they would go on with the band, and finally chose to continue. Brian Johnson did really well as the new singer. Some people can’t even tell that there were two different singers, although, if you ask me, Johnson’s singing is a tad more high pitched…

Rock on!!

Talking Heads’ Psycho killer, qu’est-ce que c’est?

What a cool song by the Talking Heads, from their debut album (1977, I believe). In the early days, this band played at the now famous CBGB, like other bands such as the Ramones, the Misfits, Blondie, etc. Talking Heads is mostly known for its more polished sound of the 80’s though (ex. Burning down the house), but I like this song much better.

Do you remember that Psycho Killer was featured in the Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror XIX, when Homer is hired to kill celebrities? People behind The Simpsons really have a knack for finding the perfect song each time.
